Hayl (like hail) is the owner of GLADYS, LLC, and is a Grief Support Specialist. She provides private grief and loss support and counseling services as well as grief, loss, death and dying education. She regularly offers grief support groups and facilitates a grief and loss club just for women. She also offers end-of-life support and consultation which can include support sessions, access to resources and referrals, and death companioning.

As a certified therapy canine team and certified crisis response team, Hayl and her dogs partners to provide services and support at GLADYS in addition to hospice and palliative care programs, memory support and skilled nursing facilities, crisis response and intervention programs, and community and state-based organizations and mental health and brain health clinics. She is a Certified Animal Assisted Intervention Specialist (C-AAIS) as well as the Chapter Leader of Pet Partners of Greater Des Moines.

Having worked in human services for many years, Hayl pursued an MSW degree with a concentration in clinical practice. However, as the pandemic impacted us all, Hayl was further inspired to pursue her passion for understanding how trauma, conflict, grief, and loss impact our lifespan and development. She began focusing her education on gerontology with specialization in grief and loss and this led her to earn a Master of Science (MS) degree in Gerontology from Kansas State University and a graduate certificate in Conflict Resolution. She will be pursuing a doctoral degree (PhD) focused in adult learning and grief and trauma-informed education. In addition, she is working towards state certification as a Mediator to facilitate conflict resolution during aging in place, long-term care, and end-of-life decisions. Hayl also holds a professional certificate as a Grief Support Specialist (University of Wisconsin-Madison), a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology from Drake University and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Animal Science. She also attended the University of Kansas to earn a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis and was previously a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and certified through the BACB. She holds additional certifications in Mental Health First Aid, Psychological First Aid, and Victim Advocacy.
